Location:

Chitteepara is a famous tourist spot in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala, India. It is also known as the 'Meesapulimala of Thiruvananthapuram'.

Key Information about Chitteepara:

  • Location: Chitteepara is situated in the Tholicode Grama Panchayat of Thiruvananthapuram district, near Ponpara on the Ponmudi State Highway.
  • Main Attraction: The primary attraction is the breathtaking sunrise. The visual feast created by the mist, clouds, and sun rays attracts many tourists.
  • Altitude: It stands at an elevation of approximately 1,600 feet above sea level.
  • Special Features:
    • It is also a Nadukaanipara (viewpoint). From here, one can see Aryanad Junction, Vithura, Nedumangad, and on a clear day, even the airport and Shankhumukham beach.
    • Due to the neck-like shape of the rock in some areas, it is also called Kazhuthan Para (Neck Rock).
    • It is a suitable spot for trekking and rock climbing.
    • The centuries-old Sree Ayiravilli Thampuran Temple is located on this rock. Worship, festivals, and Pongala are conducted here according to tribal customs.
  • How to Reach: Chitteepara is about 30 kilometers away from Thiruvananthapuram city. On the way to Vithura, take a right turn from Iruthalamoola and travel approximately 2 kilometers to reach the vicinity of the Ayiravilli Thampuran Temple. From there, a 15-20 minute walk will take you to the top of the rock.
  • Things to Note: Due to the risk of accidents, restrictions have been imposed on visitors. Safety must be ensured when engaging in adventurous activities like rock climbing.
