Chittipara: Tourist Information and Route Guide (Tholicode Grama Panchayat)

 

Chittipara is a scenic place located in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala. It is situated in the Tholicode Grama Panchayat, close to Ponpara and near the Ponmudi State Highway.

 

Special Features (Attractions)

 

  • Breathtaking Sunrise: The main attraction here is the spectacular view of the sunrise, created by the mist, clouds, and golden sunbeams in the morning. Some people refer to it as the 'Meesapulimala of Thiruvananthapuram.'
  • Nadukanippara (Viewpoint): From this rock, you can see distant places like Vithura and Nedumangad. If the weather is favorable, you can even clearly spot the airport and the Shankhumugham beach.
  • Temple: The ancient Sree Ayiravilli Thampuran Temple is located on this rock. Tribal ritualistic worship (Gothrachara) and festivals are held here every year.
  • Geographical Curiosity: When viewed from a distance, one part of a huge rock appears to be leaning precariously against another, almost about to fall. Due to its neck-like shape when viewed from afar, it is also known as 'Kazhuthan Para' (Neck Rock).

 

Route to Chittipara

 

Chittipara is located in the Tholicode Grama Panchayat, Thiruvananthapuram district.

From Thiruvananthapuram City:

  • Chittipara is approximately 30 kilometers away from the city.
  • The main route to follow is the Ponmudi State Highway.

Main Route:

  • Thiruvananthapuram → Nedumangad → Tholicode Junction.
  • From Tholicode Junction, take the road leading to Chittipara. The location is near Ponpara.

Mode of Transport:

  • Bus: Buses are available from Thiruvananthapuram to Tholicode via Nedumangad or Vithura. From Tholicode Junction, you may need to rely on an autorickshaw or taxi to reach Chittipara.
  • Private Vehicle: Traveling by private vehicle is the most convenient option.

  • Due to the influx of visitors, local residents occasionally impose restrictions to manage the crowds. It is advisable to check for any current travel restrictions before planning your visit.
